OCCUPATIONAL SAFETY AND HEALTH program
The injury and illness OSH program was chosen to decrease workplace stress. Many workers are not healthy and fit due to their tight schedules, which comprises of extended working, the pressure at work as well as conflicts with staff mates or with the managers in the company. All these can result in some kinds of sicknesses or depression to the workers. This does not just have an impact on their professional lives, but also have an impact on their personal lives. therefore rather than waiting to be unfit, it is good for one to begin taking care of their health by getting frequent breaks, sit in suitable postures with a suitable diet. An employee should schedule their work well and control things to decrease work-place stress.
One can identify the risk linked to this program area by observing that an employee is always overwhelmed with work whereby the employee does not finish her allocated work well and in good time. This kind of employee always has conflicts with their immediate bosses as well as workmates. It means that she is not responsible and doesn’t know how to manage her schedule. Her work normally has extended working times with lots of wrangles. In assessing the problem, the worker is normally depressed, restless, anxious and afraid. Therefore, this can lead her to illnesses like anxiety disorder, depression, and frequent headaches among others.
The control measures include having frequent breaks during working hours in order to rejuvenate oneself so as to be able to carry on with the tasks ahead. Talking with the manager to be added an assistant or word reduced. Request for extended deadlines for works that are not urgent.
In this case, one should be trained on time management, how to schedule for work so as to be always ahead, how to organize work from ones that are urgent to ones that are less urgent and finally how to carry out tasks faster. Methods of safety procedures are that: one should not worry about work issues especially when it is break time. One should be open to the managers and other staff mates so that they are not depressed with work-related matters. Physical fitness is important to avoid illnesses and bad body postures emanating from work.
Health and Safety rules
Employees should ensure they are healthy and safe from problems emanating from the workplace. For instance, in terms of health, people who are sitting on office desks should ensure they be in a good posture to avoid spine problems. In terms of safety, they should use correct tools especially those in the company workshops. They should use the correct gears and garments to ensure safety.
One can identify a problem in this program when employees have problems like cut fingers. Cut fingers mean the employee was not in gloves which are a protective gear in the workplace. Head injuries mean the employee was not in a helmet when in the workshop. To asses this, one can see that the employees do not have protective gears like overall, gumboots, helmets, gloves, googols while working. This means that they are prone to injuries, illnesses, and deaths.
The hazard control measures are that equipment in the company should be used for intended purposes. Workers should ensure that when they go to work, they are in their full protective gears so as to avoid injuries. They should be in the know of the company schedule so that they ensure the right thing is done at the right time to avoid confusion that might later or lead to injuries and deaths. Those operating machines should be in the know of those around them so that cases of forklifts falling on people are reduced.
Training requirements include instilling in workers the safety precautions so that they are in the know of the dangers if they defy the rules. Workers should always be reminded to be in their protective gears so that they do not get into problems. Workers to be taught on appropriate usage of tools and equipment. Employees should be penalized for not putting on their safety gears. Machine operators should be instructed to be always careful when operating machines lest they lose their jobs.
Employees Orientation
It is good for employees to undergo orientation so that they are aware of the company’s dealings and are ready to take on the course. Orientation also lays a strong foundation for new workers with the various departments. It also encourages workers to be confident, effective, productive, enhance knowledge retention and adapt faster in the new working environment
When employees are not oriented, they normally are green in the various department. They do not know who they are answerable to. They may not also know how to carry out their work thus resulting in poor performance in the various departments and overall loss-making of the company. For example, lack of orientation may lead to injuries, illness, and death. This can be assessed when employees have frequent accidents in the factories that may be controlled by frequent orientations.
Some control of risks in this field can be frequent orientations to employees whereby they undergo training in operating machines. Due to the dynamic nature of the world, there should be frequent seminars as well as workshops whereby employees can attend to be trained on new machinery equipment so as to keep up with the new trends. The company should always ensure that all employees are orientated so as to ensure the smooth running of the company.
