In addition to having minimum spelling errors and grammar errors, the essay on Mad Max has a strong central purpose or argument that it gradually developed. It starts with an attention-grabbing first paragraph making the reader want to read more of the essay. The author begins by placing the reader in medis res, that is, in the middle of a world where gas, bullets, and water were the most essential valuables to have. The essay’s central purpose is the thesis statement. At the end of the first paragraph, the author states his or her thesis, describing his position ( the movie not following all the prescribes seventeen stages of a hero) and describing what the paper is all about, that is, how it fits the concept of the hero’s journey. An additional strength is that the author is in between the formal and informal tone to maintain an exciting piece but not too stuffy- formal but casual. All the paragraphs build strongly around the idea of how perfectly or imperfectly the movie Mad Max portrays the stages of a hero. The author also uses credible sources and cites phrases from his sources hence, validating his facts. One weakness, however, is that the author skipped an important part of writing a strong essay, that is, proofreading. In the second last paragraph, the third sentence would have made more sense if proofread. The essay also would be more organized if each paragraph started with a topic sentence.

2.) What are some of the strengths and weaknesses of Sample Essay #2 (Pinocchio)

The first strength of this essay is the first paragraph. It starts mysteriously, grabbing the attention of the reader who would want to know how film, Pinocchio and the hero’s journey all correlate. The choice of movie is also a unique one. A different angle is taken contrary to the normal warrior hero- how can Pinocchio, a wooden boy fit to be a hero? With the essay’s mystery tone, the essay brings more insight to the reader. The placement of the thesis statement also demonstrates what the reader expects throughout the story. On the other hand, the author was ignorant of the most important step, proofreading. The second paragraph shows carelessness as it is full of redundancies. The essay is also blunt and would be more interesting if it would be supported by direct quotes from the movie. Non- the less, referencing was not done properly using credible sources, making the reader doubt the reading’s credibility.

3.) Which essay do you think is more successful and why?

The most successful essay is essay number one; Mad Max. Despite the few grammatical errors, the writer is not any other writer among thousands that are trying hard to make an impression. The fact that she makes a lasting impression in her conclusion about redemption not resulting from running but from facing the situation and changing it to be the best fit, makes the reader admit that a real person, not fading behind data collection and facts, is writing to the reader. The author also established a logical sequence, consistency in events and appropriate and concrete evidence..
