Slavery violated American morals and was a major cause of disgrace for the country. The 4th of July 1800, became a day of public commemoration for the Americans as it signified people’s freedom from European harassment. During the Independence Day oration at Hartford, the speaker delivered justifiable reasons for Americans to celebrate their independence.

Americans had eventually achieved nationalism after a revolution before which they were denied freedom and ruled from London. The triumph of shifting the government seat from London to Philadelphia granted Americans the feeling that all humans are equally created by the supreme God(“A July Fourth Oration” 131). Nevertheless, Americans were not only moved by the freedom they gained but also knew that other nations such as Greece would awaken as well.

Americans were joyous for the dignity that was to be accorded to Africa and her children. It meant that Africans would no longer be executed, robbed, and burned on a racial basis (“A July Fourth Oration” 132). Furthermore, Americans were treated as half mankind with half systems that only supported a section of humanity, but such perception had come to an ultimate end and boys and girls would be entitled to similar duties (“A July Fourth Oration”132). Equality of all human beings was a virtue Americans had fought for with all their resources, and it was in their hands finally.

Freedom is a right that people should uphold, and it is like a tender plant that ought to be attended to cautiously by its owner. Freedom needs regular weeding, watering, and firm defense as it is prone to destruction by hirelings either through acts of carelessness or accidents. Once freedom withers or gets destroyed it becomes difficult to restore it.
